From 1st – 3rd September 2017 Nyege Nyege will present its unique fusion of international and African sounds at the idyllic venue Nile Discovery Beach. The festival, which launched in 2015 immediately established its reputation as one of the best new music festivals worldwide and has continued to be celebrated by festival fans and music editors for mixing stellar curation with Uganda’s renowned party vibes.

Pre Sale tickets for this year’s 72-hour celebration are available to purchase for $36 (130,000 Ugandan shillings) online until Wednesday 26th of August. Tickets will be on sale at the door (subject to availability) for 170’000 UGX for the full festival pass, as well as day tickets on Friday at 70’000 UGX, on Saturday at 100’000 UGX and on Sunday at 50’000 UGX #TheUrgeIsReal #TooMuchSauce

Nyege Nyege released its final additions to this year’s line-up, with the best in influential and eclectic musical acts influenced by the African continent.

Artists added to the line up include rising Ugandan dancehall star Latinum, Canadian Tropical Bass star Ghislain Poirier, UK’s global dancefloor force Cervo, up and coming Kenyan producer Sichangi who is making waves worldwide, as well as Ugandan reggae artist AK Simba who will bring his Belgian-based band “Karamoja” to debut their new EP. French/Brazilian DJ A Macaca and Kenyan techhouse producer Mawe round up the packed line up, joining our Cameroonian headliners Reniss and Jovi, making Nyege Nyege Festival 2017 the biggest music event to have taken place in East Africa yet!  The festival will also showcase Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes, who, since their launch in January 2017, have garnered worldwide critical acclaim showcasing emerging underground East Africa artists including Sisso Records, Disco Vumbi  and Otim Alpha.

With 4 stages this year, the 72-hour musical celebration is sure to impress festivalgoers once again. This year’s sound will be unparalleled in the region, with support from the Nairobi underground who are bringing not one, but two sound systems: the Umojah rig, the first dedicated reggae/dub-style sound system built in Kenya, and East Africa’s first Funktion-One soundsystem coming to Uganda for the first time.

In order to fit in all this music, this year’s Nyege Nyege will open for those who are camping on Thursday morning, with a pre-party on Thursday night for the Njeru community where the festival is held, and all 3 -day pass-holders. Those interested in hiring a tent can do so via easyticket.ug or mymookh.com for only 100,000ugx (3000 kes), which includes a tent with 2 mattresses. Party buses from Nairobi, Kigali and Dar es Salaam will descend upon Jinja for the weekend, making the festival a true regional music celebration of historic proportions. Jumia Travel is making it easy for Kampala residents to join, by offering tent and hotel travel packages to the festival.

Decoration of the Nile Discovery Beach site is also a priority for Nyege Nyege this year, led by critically acclaimed visual artist Mirembe Musisi, a team of 20 stage builders, visual artists, photographers and installation freaks from all over the region will start building the site 3 weeks in advance.

The 2016 edition saw over 200 local and international artists take to the stage in front of 3000 festival-goers, and attracted a global audience thanks to its forward thinking curation of African music. In previous years the festival has served as the East African debut for Kuduro pioneer DJ Marfox, the satirical Ghanaian rappers FOKN Bois, Scottish soundsystem Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Niger-based synth pioneer Mamman Sani, South African house producer Aero Manyelo, Burkinabe rapper Joey Le Soldat, North African electronic music collective Arabstazy, Senegalese electronic producer Ibaaku and Mozambican/ Ghanaian duo Gato Preto.
